Concinnity Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that is working with kids around the world to develop children's books about endangered species that will be sold in the U.S. to raise money for education and conservation around the world. Our books will raise money for organizations like the Somaly Mam Foundation, which rescues girls as young as 6 from sexual slavery in Cambodia, or HEAL Africa which treats victims of brutal rape in DR Congo or Help the Afghan Children which, at great risk to the staff, strives to provide an education to girls in Afghanistan. Please visit www.concinnityinitiatives.org to learn more about us and our project.
Best-selling children's book authors such as David Soman, Page McBrier, and John Hendrix are helping with this project by providing feedback on the stories. We have partnered with 10 leading nonprofit organizations to make this project a success. Combined, they have about 2.5 million members and 4 of them have received strong endorsements from Oprah. We will be launching a major PR Campaign to help drive sales of the books. And we are working on partnerships with corporate retailers to distribute the books.
There will be 8 books in the set, each book featuring an endangered species form a different country (see our website).
We are looking for illustrators for 3-4 of the books, as well as other projects we are working on.
We are open to different compensation arrangements and will make a decision based on price, style/quality, and turn-around times.
This project is a nice opportunity to get paid to expand your portfolio with a book that has strong potential to gather national attention while helping very good causes. The illustrations will primarily feature animals in their habitats, not humans, though one book will feature humans and animals.
The books will be 8.5" x 10.5" and will include roughly 20 illustrations.
If you are interested in bidding on one of these books, please submit:
1. Your charge per illustrated page for publishing rights
2. Your charge per illustrated page for ownership of the originals
3. Your anticipated turnaround time for a 20 illustration book
4. A link to samples of your previous work
5. Any references you would like to provide
6. If you would like to provide a rough sample sketch as part of your bid, we would appreciate it. This is not required, but would help your bid. Below are a few lines from our book from Bangladesh, which is about the endangered Ganges River Dolphins. If you wish to provide a sample sketch based on this selection, it would be appreciated. The section is about Pintu, a young dolphin, getting stuck in a fishing net and then getting freed.
At last, the fish popped free of the net. But as it did, Pintu went flying backward, straight into another net! Pintu panicked. She tried to chew through the nets with her sharp teeth, but the nets were too strong. She knew she couldn’t hold her breath much longer. She had to get to the surface for air somehow!
Just as Pintu was about to lose hope, something crashed into the net. Before Pintu knew what was going on, there was an even bigger crash! The crash sent Pintu tumbling.
Bewildered, Pintu turned—only to find herself face to face with a giant crocodile! The crocodile had crashed into the net while chasing the big fish, and he too was now caught in the net!
The massive crocodile thrashed about with his powerful tail. He gnashed and gnashed with his sharp teeth, finally ripping the net to shreds and freeing Pintu!
Without thinking twice, Pintu bolted, straight to the surface for air. Then she swam and swam and swam, as fast as she could, trying to put those dreadful nets and that giant crocodile as far behind her as possible.
Thanks!
