Abrams Media, the fast-growing network of news sites launched by Dan Abrams, is looking for an entry-level addition to our software development team. The ideal applicant is a recent college graduate looking for hands-on experience in web development at a fast-growing media startup.
Applicants must be available to work full-time in our offices in SoHo.
Currently, we operate four sites: Mediaite (media industry news), Geekosystem (technology and geek culture), Styleite (style and fashion), and SportsGrid (sports news and statistics). We create web apps both as a means to support their content, and as new projects independent of their editorial efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn are just as important as your coding chops! That said, the following areas of knowledge will impress us:
Basic Web Frameworks: HTML, CSS, Javascript -- pretty standard.
Knowledge of LAMP development: Most of our apps run on PHP/MySQL, so you should have actual experience with these through personal, academic, or enterprise projects. You should also have a good handle on one or more Unix workalike OS.
General Web Development Knowledge: Awareness of major development frameworks, being able to get your head around a new API and figure out possible integrations, and so on.
Willingness to learn new platforms and software packages: Just because we're working mostly in LAMP now doesn't mean we won't need to adapt in the future. If you love exploring new languages, even those you weren't required to learn for a class, this may be the job for you.
Job Perks: We're something of a skunkworks -- if you have an idea for a project, odds are you'll be able to try it out. Several of our development staff have also written articles for Geekosystem, most recently on subjects such as autotune programs and the KFC Double Down.

We’re looking for a [insert cliche job posting term here: ninja, rock star, bad ass, samurai, etc] UI/UX designer/front-end developer to join our small team in Orange County, CA building an innovative web application. You’ll work primarily on designing and implementing our Rails application’s user interfaces: simplifying, beautifying, and generally making our software easier and more fun to use. The ideal candidate will share our passion for design and have a genuine interest in building fun and usable experiences.
We are NOT looking for a work-a-holic to come in and to work all night and all day until they burn-out. We are strong believers in relaxation, having fun, family, and vacations.
We are also NOT looking for a “drone” who just checks off items from a to-do list… We want somebody who is so passionate about our business that they will WANT to think about how to make it better and not merely check off to-dos.
Responsibilities:
From concept to HTML/CSS implementation, build front-ends for new and existing features in our web applications
Understand our goals and translate them into beautiful software.
Be a voice of the user, always advocating for the best user experience while understanding the business process.
Enjoy the challenge of turning processes which some may consider complicated into simple interfaces
MUST HAVE Requirements:
Mastery of standards-based HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript Frameworks
Strong practical understanding of user experience.
Great communicator. Able to express yourself in speech and writing.
Provide solid examples of your work (CSS, HTML, Design)
Jedi knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus
BIG Bonus Points For:
We are a Ruby on Rails shop and while Ruby knowledge is not a requirement, you’ll have a big-time bonus if you’re fluent in ERB and comfortable with Rails views (or willing to learn quickly!).
Experience with git version-control
Willingness to take on roles beyond the front-end, such as developing and defining our business (user flow) processes.
Why join the Kajabi team?
The idea of working in an environment where you have a significant role in defining and creating the product gets you excited!
You’re tired of working in a stale office environment in one of Orange County’s cookie-cutter office parks complete with cubicles and fluorescent lighting. You want a cool work environment in an awesome historic building with lots of character right in the heart of OC.
You want to work in a tight-knit, fun and laid-back team
You want to work for a company founded on the principles of Getting Real. A company who is not a “startup” looking for venture capital funding or trying to flip the business, but one that has a solid product which is rabidly desired by the marketplace, and has already generated millions of dollars for our customers in a matter of months.
You want to join a company on the ground floor and have an excellent shot at potential compensation and financial incentives.
Job Perks: You'll be just the fourth full-time member of the team. We're a very casual company (No meetings! No set amount of vacation days! Free lunch Tuesdays!) but intensely passionate about what we do and helping those we serve.
Apply: Don't bother with a resume... That doesn't really matter to us. PROVE to us that you're the right person for the job. Of course we want to see real-life samples of your work (HTML, CSS, Designs).
If you meet ALL of the requirements above, please email us 6081@jobs.authenticjobs.com
